The Corporate Cup Challenge presented by Sterling Jewelers Inc.
The Akron Marathon has partnered with Sterling Jewelers to present the inaugural Corporate Cup Challenge, which will give local companies the opportunity to compete against one another for the title of Corporate Cup Champion. Companies will earn points based upon the number of runners and volunteers, amount of money raised for local charities, and top finishers in the marathon, half marathon and team relay.
The winning company will be presented with the prestigious Corporate Cup, which is the same caliber trophy that the Marathon winners receive. The cup will be engraved with the winning company’s name and will be available for display in the winning company’s office for one year. The company will also receive a smaller replica Champion cup that will be theirs to keep.

What is the easiest way for my runners to fundraise?
The Akron Marathon Blue Line Charity Program uses an online fundraising platform called Crowdrise. This platform is available to anyone doing fundraising in conjunction with the Akron Marathon. The platform is easy to use and there is not cost involved.
How does my corporation sign up for a Crowdrise page?
To sign up for a Crowdrise page, go to http://www.crowdrise.com/AkronMarathon2014 and click ‘Set Up Your Fundraiser’. From here, click on ‘Start Your Own Fundraiser’. Fill in the requested information, choose the charity you will be fundraising for and then you are ready to start fundraising. Once your Crowdrise page is set up, you can then forward a link to your runners and they will be able to join your team and begin fundraising.
What is the best way to promote our partnership?
Any way you can! Promote your involvement in the Corporate Cup Challenge through social media, your website, email campaigns, corporate health fairs, word of mouth and any other way you can think of.
Can we promote our partnership on Social Media?
Of course! When promoting on social media make sure to tag Akron Marathon so that our followers get your message as well. This way you will reach two audiences with one message. You can find the Akron Marathon on Facebook, YouTube (Akron Marathon channel), Twitter (@akronmarathon, #runAkron) and Instagram (akronmarathon, #runAkron).
How will I know where my corporation stands against the other competitors?
The Akron Marathon will have a Corporate Cup Challenge leader board on the Akron Marathon website. This leader board will be updated every Monday starting in June with the number of runners, volunteers and funds raised by each corporation that is signed up.
Where do the numbers on the leader board come from?
The information for the leader board will be pulled from reports on our registration and volunteer systems and from Crowdrise. If a corporation chooses not to use Crowdrise they will be asked to send Katie Kline, email@example.com, a weekly recap of funds raised each Monday morning.
How does my corporation choose a charity to fundraise for?
Corporations are welcome to choose a charity they would like to raise funds for. However, the Akron Marathon strongly encourages Corporate Cup Challenge corporations to choose one of the ten charities in the 2014 Blue Line Charity Program. A list of the 2014 Blue Line Charity Program partners can be found at http://www.akronmarathon.org/blue-line-charity-partners/.
Does the Akron Marathon keep any of the money my organization raises?
No, all funds raised go directly to the charity. Corporations are encouraged to use the online fundraising platform CrowdRise to collect donations online as well as record offline donations.
Does my organization have to use CrowdRise?
No, if you have your own website or another platform you prefer to use, you may use it. We partner with CrowdRise for organizations that are not set up to take donations on their own website. If you are not using Crowdrise, your corporation must provide a report of funds raised. This report must include total dollars raised, how the money was raised, dates of fundraisers and money raised at each fundraising event.
Are there fees associated with using CrowdRise?
Yes, CrowdRise charges 5% + credit card fees (2.9% + .30). These fees cover the administrative costs and credit card fees that CrowdRise incurs for providing this service.
Some of our donors prefer not to donate online, do their donations by cash or check still count?
Absolutely. You are able to log those donations on CrowdRise so they are reflected in your total or you can keep a record of offline donations to provide to the Akron Marathon with your final report. If you are not using Crowdrise, please send a weekly fundraising report to Katie Kline, firstname.lastname@example.org.
If we use Crowdrise, how does the money get to the charity we are supporting?
When you set up your fundraiser on Crowdrise you will choose a charity by inputting the organization’s name and entering the appropriate information. The money will then automatically be sent to the organization.
How will the charity know where the money came from?
When Crowdrise sends the check to your chosen charity, there will be a payment statement with the check informing them of the organization that fundraised on their behalf.
Is there a minimum that has to be raised?
There is not a minimum amount that has to be raised. However, the more you raise, the more points your corporation gets and the better your chances of winning the Corporate Challenge Cup!
Do my runners have a fundraising requirement?
The Akron Marathon does not set fundraising requirements. Fundraising requirements for runners can be set by the corporation, if it would like.
How should my runners fundraise?
With CrowdRise, those raising funds are able to email potential donors, post to social media sites, and keep track of the funds they have raised.
Do my runners have to set up their own fundraiser on Crowdrise or can they join our corporations?
Runners are able to set up their own fundraiser within your corporation’s fundraiser. Once your corporation has set up a fundraiser on Crowdrise, you will be able to email a link to your runners that they can follow to join your team.
