Champion Finish Line Experience will further enhance the event

AKRON, Ohio (July 22, 2014) – A new addition this year to the Akron Marathon will give families and friends of runners the opportunity to reserve a premium spot to watch the finish of the race at Canal Park stadium. The Champion Finish Line Experience features two exclusive areas, an on-field location by the first base line as well as private seating in Canal Park Stadium’s Tiki Terrace, and includes a picnic lunch with upgraded drink tickets.

“We wanted to create the opportunity for participants, families and friends to upgrade their Akron Marathon experience,” said Akron Marathon Executive Director Anne Bitong. “We’re giving spectators access to the field on race day, which we’ve never done before, and our hope is that the Champion Finish Line Experience will make the overall race day experience even better.”

The picnic lunch will feature classic all-American foods, including hot dogs, hamburgers, potato salad, Shearer’s chips, and chocolate chunk cookies. The upgraded drink tickets, for those 21 years of age and above, are redeemable for a 16 oz. domestic draft or 12 oz. non-premium mixed drink. Ice-cold lemonade and water are also available.

Furthermore, in addition to the upgraded experience, runners can enjoy all of the traditional premiums of participating in the Akron Marathon, including medals, water, Powerade, recovery food items, and finisher gifts for full and half marathon participants, all distributed in the on-field area of the Champion Finish Line Experience.

Tickets to the Champion Finish Line Experience will be $50 for both spectators and runners. Tickets can be purchased online at akronmarathon.org through the registration link.

The Akron Marathon, which consists of four events including the full and half marathon, the five-person team relay and the kids’ run, has grown by more than 10,000 participants since the inaugural event in 2003. The Marathon offers the community a health-focused, fun-filled occasion that draws thousands of participants and spectators each year. The 12th annual event will be held September 27, 2014.
