Q: What is the Akron Children's Hospital Akron Marathon Race Series?

A: With the success of the debut of the Rubber City Race Series in 2015, the Akron Marathon Charitable Corporation signed on Akron Children's Hospital at the title beneficiary of our race series. Thus the Akron Children's Hospital Akron Marathon Race Series was born with the goal of raising money for the hospital in its efforts to serve the children and families of our community. The series will include events on June 25th, August 13th, & September 24th and each event will include the same world-class treatment you’ve come to expect from the Akron Marathon over the past 13 years. Best of all, the Series is designed to coincide with training benchmarks and will include cumulative scoring and incentives leading up to our marquee September race.

Q: Are there runner premiums for participating in the Series?

A: In addition to all of the runner premiums you receive from the individual races, runners participating in all three events of the Akron Children's Hospital Akron Marathon Race Series will:

Q: What are the race dates of the Akron Children's Hospital Akron Marathon Race Series?

A: Saturday, June 25, 2016 – 8k and 1-mile
    Saturday, August 13, 2016 – Half Marathon and 10k
    Saturday, September 24, 2016 – Marathon, Half Marathon, Team Relay, and Kids Fun Run

Q: Is there a minimum age requirement?

A: The minimum age varies by race.

   8k – 12 years old
   1 mile – 8 years old
   10k – 12 years old
   Half Marathon – 16 years old
   Marathon – 16 years old
   Team Relay - 14 years old

Q: After registering will I receive additional information?

A: Yes, we will send emails leading up to each event with additional information to help you get ready for race day. Final instructions are sent 2-weeks prior to the race via email and are also posted on the website. When registering please provide your primary email address.

 

Registration

Q: Will there be a discount and/or perks if I register for all 3 events?

A: Yes. All series finishers will receive a commemorative Akron Children's Hospital Akron Marathon Race Series medal. Series packages will be offered at a discounted rate.

Q: Can I register for each race individually and still participate in the Series?

A: Yes. You will be automatically added to the Series if you sign up for all three races.

Q: I was injured after registering for the Series. Can I get a refund or defer until next year?

A: No – there will be NO refunds or deferments. We incur fixed costs for each runner based on registration numbers. As a result, we are not able to allow any refunds. However, you are able to purchase insurance during the registration process through Active.com.

Q: Will you mail or email a confirmation to me?

A: Once you register online, you will receive a confirmation email immediately from Active.com.  Please provide your primary email address.

 

Scoring

Q: Will there be a scoring system used in the Series?

Q: Will each race be scored individually?

A: Yes, participants will be given a score for each completed race.

Q: Do I have to participate in all three races to participate in the Series?

A: Yes, runners must finish all three races to participate in the Rubber City Race Series.

Q: If I sign up for the series but am unable to make it to one of the races, will my other scores still count in the Series scoring?

A: No, runners must finish all three races in order to participate in the Akron Children's Hospital Akron Marathon Race Series.

 

Awards

Q: If I complete all 3 events will I receive anything special?

A: Yes, all series finishers will receive a commemorative Akron Children's Hospital Akron Marathon Race Series medal.

Q: Will there be series awards?

A: Yes, prize money will be awarded to the top 3 overall male and female participants in the series. The top male and female in the masters division will also be awarded. Additionally the top male and female in each age division will receive an award. Age groups: 19 and under, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69 and 70+. You can win only one award.

Q: Can I win double awards (overall and age group)?

A: No. You can only win one award. There is no double dipping for awards either in cash or age group awards. You will be awarded the highest dollar award.

Q: What age is Masters?

A: You must be at least 40 years of age or older on race day.
