2013 Training Opportunities
When it comes to training for a marathon we recognize that one size does not fit all. We have partnered with the very best in the business for our 2013 event. Each offers a wide variety of training experiences that fit your goals, lifestyles, and training preferences. Some programs are group based, some are individual based, but all are tailored to help you achieve your goals. Our goal is to make your race day experience world-class. Our training partners are world-class!
We have partnered with and are excited to offer this program through the Akron Area YMCA. It is our goal, through this program, to offer you the support necessary to prepare you for successfully running the 11th annual Akron Marathon. Running your first, or 50th, marathon can be a life changing experience. The road ahead may seem long and the goal far off in the distance, but we are here to help you take one step at a time along this journey. Throughout the training program you will have the opportunity to attend workshops that will inform you on proper shoe fitting, nutrition, and injury prevention. These workshops will provide you with the knowledge you need to enhance your training and racing experience. The pre and post-training fitness assessments will show how all your hard work impacted your health and fitness. In addition, there will be training runs supported by the Akron Marathon and a one key race to help prepare you for running 26.2 miles or 13.1 miles along the blue line. A great resource in our area is NEO Fit. Their coaches are devoted to getting you in the best shape of your life in a non-intimidating, fun, and safe environment. Upon joining, you will receive day-by-day training schedules, Saturday morning group runs, access to trained coaches, informational seminars and a NEO Fit marathon training t-shirt as well as a discounted race entry. Ask anyone who has completed their goal of getting in shape or finishing a half or full marathon, and I’m sure they will tell you it has truly changed his/her life. You will feel fitter, happier, and mentally much stronger; and all in a short 24 weeks. Whether you are a couch-potato, walker, casual jogger, or marathon veteran, this marathon training program is the most enjoyable, most inspiring, and most efficient way to get in the best shape of your life. This year the Akron Marathon has partnered with KB Endurance to give you the chance to jumpstart your fall marathon training by starting now to build base mileage, gain strength, and work on running technique throughout the winter and spring months preparing you for spring races and giving you a solid base as you begin the Akron Marathon Training 101 program.
