Goodyear will sponsor August race for the next three years
Akron, Ohio (May 12, 2016) – The Akron Marathon Charitable Corporation announced today that The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company has signed a three-year agreement to be the presenting sponsor for the Akron Children’s Hospital Akron Marathon Race Series Half Marathon & 10k. Goodyear also served as the presenting sponsor for the inaugural sold-out event in 2015.
The Goodyear Half Marathon & 10k scheduled for August 13 will once again start and finish at the company’s global headquarters in southeast Akron. “Nothing says Akron more than Goodyear, and we’re excited to have a company with a global presence as the sponsor for our race,” said Anne Bitong, Akron Marathon President/Executive Director. “Runners still talk about running under the shadow of the Goodyear blimp flying overhead.”
All participants in the Goodyear Half Marathon & 10k will receive quality race premiums for which the Akron Marathon has long been known, including an official race shirt and finisher’s medal. This year’s race shirt will feature the iconic Goodyear blimp based on the overwhelming response from last year’s participants. “Last year’s event was a huge success. We are excited to host over 3,000 runners and involve our associates as volunteers again this summer,” said Alison White, Goodyear’s Director of Community Engagement.

Registration for all three Akron Marathon Race Series events opened in January with incentives geared toward running multiple events. Entry fees for the Goodyear Half Marathon & 10k are $85 for the Half Marathon and $55 for the 10k. Registration is available at AkronMarathon.org.
