Q: What is the Akron Children's Hospital Akron Marathon Race Series?

A: The Akron Children's Hospital Akron Marathon Race Series was created with the goal of raising money for the hospital in its efforts to serve the children and families of our community. The series will include events on June 30th, August 11th, & September 29th and each event will include the same world-class treatment you’ve come to expect from the Akron Marathon over the past 15 years. Best of all, the Series is designed to coincide with training benchmarks and will include cumulative scoring and incentives leading up to our marquee September race.

Q: Is there a minimum age requirement?

A: The minimum age for the half marathon is 16 years old and the minimum age for the 10k is 12 years old.

Q: What is the start time and location?

A: The Goodyear Half Marathon and 10k will start at 6:30 am.  The start line is located at Goodyear Proving Grounds & Test Track (394 South Seiberling Street, Akron, Ohio 44316)

Q: After registering will I receive additional information?

A: Yes, we will send emails leading up to race day with additional information to help you get ready for race day. Final instructions are sent 2-weeks prior to the race via email and are also posted on the website. When registering please provide your primary email address.

Q: What is the average temperature on race day?

A: The temperature typically varies from 63°F to 78°F and is rarely below 55°F or above 86°F.

Q: When will I pick-up my packet?

A: Friday August 10th from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m at the John S. Knight Center at 77 E Mill St, Akron, OH 44308.


Q: Will there be perks if I register for all 3 events?

A: Yes. All series finishers will receive a commemorative Akron Children's Hospital Akron Marathon Race Series medal & commemorative gift.

Q: Can I register on the day of the race?

A: No, online registration closes on August 7th.  If spots are available after online registration closes, the last opportunity to register is at Packet Pick-up on Friday, August 10th, from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m at the John S. Knight Center at 77 E Mill St, Akron, OH 44308.

Q: Can a race bib be transferred to someone else?

A: No, bibs are not transferable. Transferred bibs will result in disqualification.

Q: I was injured after registering for the race. Can I get a refund or defer until next year or a different event?

A: No – there will be NO refunds or deferments. We incur fixed costs for each runner based on registration numbers. As a result, we are not able to allow any refunds.

Q: Will you mail or email a confirmation to me?

Q: Will the number of runners be limited in any of the events?

A: Yes, all of our events will be capped in effort to provide the same world-class experience for all of our runners. The 10k race will be capped at 1,450 participants. The Half Marathon will be capped at 870 participants.

Q: What is the time limit for each event?

A: Half Marathon - 4 hours (18:18 pace)
    10k - 2 hours (19:19 pace)             

Q: Do you allow walkers?

A: Yes. The half marathon course will remain open for 4 hours meaning that the course will close on a pace of 18:18 minutes per mile. The 10k course will remain open for 2 hours meaning that the course will close on a pace of 19:19 minutes per mile. Anyone who cannot maintain the 18:18/19:19 min/mile pace must move to the sidewalk to allow vehicular traffic through. Runner services cannot be guaranteed for participants beyond the 18:18/19:19 mile pace.

Q: What type of running surface is on the course?

A: The race is run on paved asphalt and concrete streets.

Q: What type of liquids do you provide along the course?

A: Lemon-lime sports drink and water will be provided at all fluid stations along the course.

Q: Is it possible to drive the course?

A: The course is not entirely drivable due to some restricted areas only accessible to runners on race day. View course details HERE.

Q: Will Pace Teams be available during this race?

A: Yes, the Vertical Runner Pace Team will be pacing the Goodyear Half Marathon. Please note the supported paces: 1:30, 1:35, 1:40, 1:45, 1:50, 1:55, 2:00, 2:05, 2:10, 2:20, 2:30, 2:45, 3:00, & 3:30.

Q: Can I wear headphones while racing on the Goodyear Half Marathon & 10K course?

A: Yes, runners participating in the Goodyear Half Marathon & 10k may use portable listening devices not capable of receiving communication; however, those competing in Championships for awards, medals, or prize money may not use such devices.

Q: Can a friend jump in to run a few miles with me?

A: Due to liability considerations, and out of respect for the registered participants, non-registered runners are not permitted to run or walk within the boundaries of the official course. Friends may stand adjacent to the edge of the defined course and cheer the participants on! Friends must NEVER cross the finish line or enter the finish zone.

Q: Are wheelchairs, strollers, or special vehicles permitted on the course?

A: The following items are not permitted on the course: skateboards, bicycles, roller blades, baby joggers, or any other types of vehicles (other than official race vehicles). These regulations are for the participant’s safety and the safety of the other participants in the race. The Wheelchair Division is limited to push rim racing chairs only in our September event in the Marathon distance only. Due to course restrictions, we no longer permit handcycles on our course.


Q: Will there be awards for each event?

A: The following awards will be given:

Q: Can I win double awards (overall and age group)?

A: No. You can only win one award. There is no double dipping for awards either in cash or age group awards. You will be awarded the highest dollar award.

Q: What age is Masters?

A: You must be at least 40 years of age on race day.

Q: What's the age breakdown for Age Group Awards?

A: Age groups: 19 and under, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69 and 70+.

Q: If I complete all 3 events will I receive anything special?

A: Yes, all series finishers will receive a commemorative Akron Children's Hospital Akron Marathon Race Series medal & commemorative gift.
