100 Million Steps Akron Walking Challenge
The “100 Million Steps Akron” is a city-wide walking challenge aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles and stimulating civic engagement by uniting our Akron community around a single goal: to collectively walk 100,000,000 steps. The 10 week challenge welcomes community members, organizations and local businesses to grab their sneakers, get out, and get active. The challenge officially begins on Monday, April 18, 2016 and the final step count will take place at the National Interstate 8k & 1 Mile on June 25, 2016. The first 1,000 individuals can register for free at www.Akron.walkertracker.com.
Summit Metro Parks Running Spree
Beginning on June 1st, the three-month Summit Metro Parks Running Spree includes a number of natural-surface and paved trails for beginning, intermediate and advanced runners that can be completed for credit while training for the Akron Children's Hospital Akron Marathon Race Series. Each spree participant who finishes at least six Summit Metro Parks trail runs by August 31 will earn a wooden race medal on a commemorative ribbon. 2016 forms will be available after May 15th.
Akron Marathon Training 101 (YMCA)
Throughout this training program, you will have the opportunity to attend workshops that will inform you on proper shoe fitting, nutrition, and injury prevention. These workshops will provide you with the knowledge you need to enhance your training and racing experience. The pre- and post-training fitness assessments will show how all your hard work impacted your health and fitness. In addition, there will be training runs supported by the Akron Marathon staff and key races to help prepare you for running 26.2 miles or 13.1 miles along the Blue Line. Northeast Ohio Fit
Whether you are a couch-potato, walker, casual jogger, or marathon veteran, this marathon training program is the most enjoyable, most inspiring, and most efficient way to get in the best shape of your life. Upon joining, you will receive day-by-day training schedules, Saturday morning group runs, access to trained coaches, informational seminars and a NEO Fit marathon training t-shirt as well as a discounted race entry. NEO Fit meets in Brecksville to run in the beautiful Cuyahoga Valley National Park, which is centrally located between Cleveland and Akron. Our members come from all over Northeast Ohio.
