Akron, OH (July 17, 2019) — After a successful kickoff to the Akron Children’s Hospital Akron Marathon Race Series during the sold out 8k and 1 Mile in June, the Akron Marathon Charitable Corporation is thrilled to announce its Goodyear Half Marathon on Aug. 10, 2019, has also sold out. Limited spots remain in the 10k.

The Half Marathon and 10k participants will start their running journeys with a lap around the test track at the closed-to-the-public Akron Proving Grounds, travel through Akron’s East End, Goodyear’s campus, Ellet neighborhoods, and will cross the finish line under the skywalk at Goodyear’s Global Headquarters.

“The energy and the way this event feels for our runners is different than any race,” states Anne Bitong, executive director of the Akron Marathon. “Because of the way the course is designed, even with thousands of runners, this race seems like our most intimate. We’re looking forward to giving participants this experience, while showcasing Akron’s incredible neighborhoods.”

All Akron Marathon Race Series events are known for their popular Finisher Festivals with a live band, local food favorites and high-level swag—and The Goodyear Half Marathon and 10k will live up to those expectations with a variety of vendors and displays, like the Swenson’s Food Truck. Additionally, each runner will receive a premium short sleeve performance shirt and
commemorative medal.

The Goodyear Half Marathon and 10k is the second race in the Akron Children’s Hospital Akron Marathon Race Series which will conclude with the FirstEnergy Akron Marathon, Half Marathon & Team Relay — which will follow the blue line through the streets of Akron on Sept. 28, 2019. Volunteer opportunities for the remaining two race series events and race registration for the final event can be found at AkronMarathon.org.

This year, the Akron Marathon team will host more than 15,000 runners across its 2019 events all supporting Akron Children’s Hospital. Runners looking for a deeper level of engagement with the hospital can join the race as a Children’s Champion, a race participant committed to raising $250 to $1,000 for Akron Children’s Hospital.

As a Children’s Champion, runners will be support #ACHero children like Rybecca Rennie, 18, from Waynesburg, Ohio—who is the featured hero patient at the Goodyear Half Marathon and10k.

Rybecca was involved in a nearly fatal car accident. In all, she lost consciousness several times, sustained dozens of broken bones, 2 collapsed lungs and a concussion. After multiple surgeries and hundreds of hours of therapy, Rybecca was able to regain her strength and stamina so she could get back to doing what she enjoys most, especially being with her friends
and bowling.
