AKRON, OH (Aug. 9, 2025) — Nearly 2,400 athletes came together to celebrate Akron’s Bicentennial at Goodyear’s Akron Proving Grounds Test Track for the second event in the Akron Marathon Race Series presented by Summa Health on Sat., Aug. 9, 2025, beginning at 6:30 a.m.

“On behalf of the Akron Marathon team, we’re grateful to Goodyear and our community for helping us create another successful race day,” said Anne Bitong, president and CEO of the Akron Marathon Charitable Corporation. “It was an honor to celebrate two major milestones—the 100th anniversary of the Goodyear Blimp and Akron’s Bicentennial—with runners, volunteers and supporters.”

The Goodyear Half Marathon & 10k welcomed participants from ages 6 to 81, from 23 states and 7 countries. Just as the Goodyear Blimp has become a recognizable symbol over the past century, this race continues to grow as a meaningful tradition within Akron.

Riley Worl and defending women’s champion Andrea Klima were the Goodyear Half Marathon men’s and women’s division winners, finishing at 1:11:24 and 1:21:05, with Klima bettering her time by two seconds from last year. The men’s 10k winner, Joseph Redle, finished with a time of 32:42, and the women’s 10k winner, Ashton Swinford, finished with a time of 36:05.

In the non-binary category, Fern Nichols from Akron claimed first place in the Half Marathon, and Vanessa Rivera from Columbus excelled in the 10k, reflecting our ongoing commitment to inclusivity.

“We’re proud to sponsor an event that showcases the spirit of Akron through stories of perseverance, courage and wellness,” said Doug Grassian, vice president, global external communications, social media and partnerships of The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company and Akron Marathon board member. “It’s truly meaningful to see athletes, volunteers, families and fans all together to celebrate achievement and community.”
