AKRON, OH (April 30, 2025) – The Akron Marathon Charitable Corporation, organizers of the FirstEnergy Akron Marathon, Half Marathon & Team Relay, proudly unveil a reimagined course for the 23rd annual event, set for Saturday, September 27. With just 150 days to race day, the updated route offers a vibrant foot tour of Akron’s iconic landmarks while honoring the beloved Blue Line tradition that makes marathon weekend one of the city’s most anticipated events.
The 2025 course features a dynamic downtown start, a new South Main Street finish, and a high-energy Finisher Festival at the newly revitalized Lock 3. Runners can look forward to a smoother, faster experience with reduced elevation in the first half, while preserving Akron’s signature hills for those taking on the challenge of 26.2 miles.
“Listening to our runners is central to everything we do,” said Laura McElrath, VP of operations & race director of the Akron Marathon Charitable Corporation. “This year’s course offers a more efficient and fluid first half without losing the character and challenge that make Akron’s marathon a true achievement. Every mile leads to the energy of the Finisher Festival at Lock 3 offering the perfect celebration for runners and spectators alike.”
