AKRON, Ohio (April 18, 2023) — The Akron Marathon Charitable Corporation is proud to announce a collaboration with the County of Summit for their Corporate Challenge and Blue Line Runnership programs.

The Corporate Challenge presented by the County of Summit is designed for local businesses to engage in friendly competition through participation in the Akron Marathon Race Series presented by Summa Health. This turnkey solution enhances corporate wellness programs and allows companies to showcase their commitment to employee well-being and healthy workplace culture. Companies can apply by visiting akronmarathon.org/get-involved/corporate-challenge.

“We are excited to elevate our support of the Akron Marathon Race Series and invite businesses across Summit County to join us in incorporating the Akron Marathon Race Series as part of their comprehensive wellness programs,” states County Executive Ilene Shapiro. “We believe this collaboration is an ideal platform for corporate wellness, employee engagement, and a driver for healthier employees which is why we are thrilled to cover the cost of race entries for all county employees and hope that others follow suit.”

As a community nonprofit, the Akron Marathon Charitable Corporation and its race series is dedicated to promoting health and wellness and creating events and programs that deliver opportunities to promote active lifestyles for all. Through its partnership with the county, 200 race entries will be distributed through its Blue Line Runnership Program. This philanthropic program is dedicated to reaching community members who could not typically afford a race entry, those wanting to strengthen their mental health, and/or add exercise to their addiction recovery plan. Applications are now open at akronmarathon.org/runnership.

“We are grateful for the generous support from the county and welcome businesses and individuals alike to join us for all three of our inspiring events,” states Anne Bitong, President & CEO of the Akron Marathon Charitable Corporation. “We take great pride in delivering memorable events that celebrate personal achievement and, with the county’s help, can remove barriers to registration so our events look representative of our community.”

Additionally, to prepare for the races, the Akron Marathon developed Training Plans and tips for participants. These comprehensive plans, tailored for walkers, beginning runners, and advanced athletes, provide weekly training plans and useful tips to help individuals cross the finish line of all three events.
