Limited Space Still Available in the 10K

AKRON, Ohio (July 11, 2018) – After a successful kickoff to the Akron Children’s Hospital Akron Marathon Race Series in June, the Akron Marathon Charitable Corporation announced today that registration for the 2018 Goodyear Half Marathon has officially sold out four weeks before the race.

The 13.1-mile race is a distance that is growing in popularity each year and increasingly attracts new runners. This year’s race will see participants from 27 different states running through Akron’s East End, Goodyear’s campus, Ellet neighborhoods, and crossing the finish line under the skywalk at Goodyear’s Global Headquarters.

For those still interested in participating, it’s not too late to register for the August 11 event. Race day also includes a 10k distance which follows the same start as the half marathon as runners start their journeys with a lap around the test track at the closed-to-the-public Akron Proving Grounds.

“Our races are uniquely designed to promote fun and fitness, while showcasing the different neighborhoods throughout the city and give runners a distinctive Akron experience,” said Anne Bitong, executive director of the Akron Marathon.

All Akron Marathon Race Series events are known for their popular Finisher Festivals with live bands, local food favorites and great swag. The Goodyear Half Marathon and 10k is no different and will feature the band Big in Japan, drinks, ice cream, and the Swenson’s Food Truck. Additionally, each runner will receive a premium short sleeve tech shirt and commemorative medal.

Registration for both the race and volunteer opportunities can be found at www.akronmarathon.org. The Goodyear Half Marathon and 10k is the second race in the Akron Children’s Hospital Akron Marathon Race Series which will conclude with the FirstEnergy Akron Marathon, Half Marathon, and Team Relay on September 29. This season’s first race – the National Interstate 8k & 1 Mile – held on June 30 was also a sellout.
